About the Race
Tesoro Alaska is proud to be the Title Sponsor for the Longest,
Toughest Snowmobile Race in the World.
To succeed in the annual Tesoro Iron Dog snowmobile race takes extraordinary people and a special
fuel for unbelievable conditions:
Imagine temperatures of -60 degrees and speeds up to 100 miles
per hour over the fiercely rugged terrain of Alaska. That's why
Tesoro is the exclusive fuel supplier of the Tesoro Iron Dog.
Do you think you have what it takes? This ain't no ride to
grandma's house...
Determining The Leader
Places during the race are determined by who is in
the farthest checkpoint in the quickest time. These places can be
misleading for the following reason:
A team can be at the farthest checkpoint in the
shortest time but if they haven't yet taken all of their layovers
they may actually be behind a team that is in a previous checkpoint
finishing their layover time.
Looking at a team's remaining layover and how
many hours or minutes they are behind the leader gives a better idea
of who is leading but it is still risky to assume that a team that
has finished their layovers will "catch up" to the leaders on the
trail.
