Team 23 Update

Yesterday Jeffs sled had A-arm issues before Ruby. Repaired in Ruby and back on the trail.

Half way to Galena they had coolant problems with Marks sled. Towed into Galens and took L/O.

Will be repairing Marks sled today and back on the trail. They have some work to do to get to the exchanger but sleds and guys are in good shape.

the teams are probably past kaltag it just takes a while to get updates from that checkpoint considering they have to watch for teams coming in and report at the same time. would be a shame if a team pulled up there to gas up and the checkers were inside reporting updates, priority after all is being there for the racers to get fueled and oiled up as fast as possible and then reporting updates when they can.

some of the times are messed up do to layover card discrepancies that will hopefully be cleared up, unless some teams forgot to get their layover cards signed properly, but that shouln't be the case considering these teams no the importance of carrying the layover cards and filling them out and getting them signed properly.

last word on 37 and 4 were that there machines were in tip top shape in Galena and due to the slow updates I'm sure that pete/ty are on their way to Unk and tom/lou are probably on their way also unless 37 wanted to finish there layover in Kal and go straight to Nome which is possible.

9:31 blogger, I agree. It is a shame. It's not getting info from the checkers that's the problem. It's someone not inputting the info carefully enough. I'm thinking Tesoro the lead sponsor of this race needs to mandate some QA/QC for this part of the race. It's not professional at all. It's not cranking on headquarters either, this has been systemic and an on-going issue for years.

The only way 14 times are correct is if they took their lay over in route to UNK in an aircraft. Even then their layover times don't make sense.

For those people asking about Kaltag. You have one family out their who move all of their kids out of their rooms for the racers to stay in the guest cabin, they make food for the racers, pump the gas, and update everyone. I'm sure he wishes he had someone else to help as well. The Iron Dog could send him some help, but then where would they stay, there is no hotel and this is just one less bed for the racers. I'm not supporting the lack of reporting that never seems to get better by the Iron Dog staff, but they do have some major issues to over come each year.

Ok the latest from Kaltag: Mckenna and Quam are not on their way to shaktoolik they left at 8:30am and returned to Kaltag and took of Quams Power Valves to clean them because they were sticking, and also worked on Mckenna's stearing but couldn't get that solved(some teams are through shaktoolik but it isn't 14). Lou/Tom #37 left Kaltag early this morning everything was in good shape. Clint/Jeff #26 left Kaltag @8:40 am everything fine a little cold though had to do some minor repairs to Clints windshield in Galena, they will no doubtedly warm up in the Kal-Unk portage. And #4 Ty/Pete went through early before 7am or so and looked great!

Team 17 has been having troubles w/ Dusty's sled going into fail-safe mode the whole trip, but Jimmers electrical went down just out of Galena so they went back since they were closer to Galena and towing with a machine that is having issues in the blowing cold is never a good idea. They are still on the clock trying to figure everything out.

Hearing that 17 has mech trouble, Van Meter's sled lost spark and Jimmer towed him into Kaltag. Needs a stator.

If I had to guess, the GPS units are falling apart internally from the pounding and that's why they stop sending or send intermittently.
