GO CURT!! WE ARE ROOTING FOR YOU BACK HERE IN THE DAKOTA'S!!! "DA BOYS AT CONSTRUCTION WITH R & R"
the lights went on in the nome garage just before 0700 no teams in the frames until recently......i would guess there is going to be some work activity on the sleds that came in yesterday...and the first team out will be sometime very close to 900 am as scheduled in the rules.....the top teams will be separated by their real time and then the remaining group will be bunched up and released in regular intervals.....to get the maximum day light....this is hard on the boys that just got there late yesterday, because they have to round up parts, repair time all while trying to get a well deserved rest.....
the best sleepers in Nome were the West boys that got a good nights sleep at home.....
Lahka. you too slept liek a babe

does anyone know why team 16 got a 20 min penalty?
This is on the team standings
16
Minnick, Olstad 22:46:08
Nome 02-12 14:44:08
02-14 09:00:00 01:01:08 No
28:00:00 No 20 minute penalty due to outside assistance
What's a hifax (Team #22 is missing one), and what's it's importance... can they continue? Appreciate the blogs, because the regular site seems inconsistent with news. Assume not everyone has GPS, because I can't track "my team" (#22)...
LET'S GO HUNTINGTON & DEMOSKI! TEAR EM' UP COMING HOME BOYS!
Tean 8 has a loose connection to the fuel injector and they fixed it. Everything good to go now. Go Team 8
What is the outside assistance to Minnick. When and where?
Team 14 worked on their sleds for over 30 mins. Not sure of exact time, but I watched at least 30 mins of their repairs on the web cam.
Does anyone is Nome know whether #16 or #22 even had their gps's installed or possibly got them working?
SO WHO HELPED TEAM 16?? THAT SUCKS
Team 16 had someone hold up one of there machines so they could spin the track and some tools handed to them. they are lucky dennis was easy on them and only got 20
Go TY and TY!!!!
Wooo Hooooo!!!
THEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN MORE THAN 20MINS FOR THAT
Probably got 20 minutes for 2 minutes of help.
WHERE'S THE WORK TIME INFO?????
Now here at Pheonix Airport.....Yawn again.....Good internet....can see the webcam really well...thank you all in Nome......
#8....all the way!
go team 8 skidoo baby!!
This post has been removed by the author.
I heard that it was Tyler and Tyson that got the outside help, heard that team 16 had someone hold a flashlight for them
I have to say, last year there was a team CAUGHT by an official in an alley way working on there sleds and only 10 minutes taken from them. Go figure that one out..
Could be a sly strategy for #14 and #22 to "oopsy" my gps is not working. No one knows where they are.Word spreads like wildfire on these blogs if someone is not advancing down the trail as well as some expect. Who knows, I am sure they know how to install them.
Good luck to all.
GO #5, #32, #20, and of course #8.
PS - #16 has nothing on you #8, a few minutes to make up in 800 miles, nothing to it.
Team 25 scratched because of mechanical reasons. The machine could not make it any further, but the Guys were strong with IRON DOG Pride here in Nome! They did great and look for you guys next year! Great to have you with us to Nome!
maybe some special treatment for the fist gentleman
Ditto, Rick, thank you
Its wrong that Dennis even accepted this protest, considering last year when tyler protested at fairbanks, when their was team tha was caught working on their machine off the clock and dennis turned down the protest. Did he do this just because is was DAvis and Palin. This is WRONG to penalize them!!!!!!
I agree, lets not go by what he said she said, lets show some proof, I bet if tyler and tyson had got to nome first, there wouldn't have been anything said.
Where is Team 25 to Nome in the list? They came in before some of the other teams?
Regardless if tools were handed to Team 16 or not, per the Iron Dog Rule Book ALL Protests and appeals must be submitted in writing to the Race Director or a Checkpoint Official by only a participant within 30 minutes of arriving at the next checkpoint capable of communications. Infractions must be
reported as noted or they did not happen. This protest should have been THROWN OUT - The protest was filed in NOME - Wasn't there a checkpoint between McGrath and Nome???
Yentna Lady.....
Are getting any snow out of this last system blowing by?
I agree, Iron Dog officals, you need to THROW OUT THE PENALTY!!!!!!
HERE, HERE! THROW OUT THE PENALTY!!!
I heard 10 to 20 inches in the forecast for the SU-drainage. Went for a ride last night from BL to Yentna, approx 8-10 of fresh snow since Sunday.
yes......lets throw out the pentalty!!!!!!
Oh oh. Is that half-way cam A no-way cam? or is it my computer?
Throw it out, and pentalize the guys who are making a false claim, because of poor sportsmanship
Iron Dog....if what is said is true! You need to forget penalties and let these guys race!!!!!
Anybody here why #12 scratched?
Lets throw out the rules too and make it a free for all!!!! Get over it and move on.
Ok, whats going on now? Team 16 penalized for what?
-distracted at work
Go Team 17!!!
Did they leave nome yet
It is what it is........lets RACE already. This wont change much anyway as far as time out of Nome. If they got outside help? then the penalty should be enforced..
if they got outside help they should be penalized....bottom line. no matter what the top 2 teams are awesome racers so its gonna be a close one regardless.
Just checked the weather they are calling for snow all along the river it looks like mother nature might throw a monkey wrench in we might have us a race yet.
Which teams are declaring penalties against team 16?
If this race was a free-for-all, it would be unfair. As it is, the air support should be equally shared and not for sponsored teams.
In this case, the teams should be broken into separate categories with each to have their own winning prizes.
So with the 20 minute penalty plus repair time, does any one know how far back 8 is from 16?
Great! Now we have a race to watch with 16's gps working
Go Team #3
Be Safe, race fast...we are cheering you on all the way to the finish line.
Love
Aunt Barb, Joe, Jesse, Yvette
Arizona
WE DON"T NEED DOUBLE STANDARDS IN THIS RACE!!!! TO MAKE THIS RACE EVEN, NO AIR SUPPORT FOR ANYONE, I HAULED THREE PLANE LOADS THE OTHER DAY FOR DAVIS AND PALIN, THAT WAS HALF THE "IRON DOG AIRFORCE". NOW YOU WONDER WHY THEY DO SO GOOD, THEY CAN REBUILD A COUPLE OF NEW SLEDS AT ANY CHECK POINT OR ON THE TRAIL IF THEY WOULD LIKE. NO DOUBLE STANDARDS, IF EVERYONE THAT RACED THE "WORLDS LONGEST, HARDEST RACE" HAD THE SAME RESOURCES, OUT COMES WOULD BE DIFFERENT OVER THE LAST 25 YEARS!!! NO DOUBLE STANDARDS!!!
Are all the racers in good spirit though? All in all...they are doing what they love to do. C'mon lets not b**ch or complain.
Peace!
Visabilities along the coast today of between 3/4 to 2 1/2 miles due to light snow.
This is going to be interesting.... We have had a snow dump the last 24 hours. Every one of those rock-hard bumps they hit going north are now totally camouflaged...and no one's been over the trail. I do not envy the leaders and I have an idea that we'll see the top half dozen tighten up considerably by the time they get here. If I were in Team's 18, 10, 3, 14 and 22's shoes I'd be smiling...cause those young bucks are going to either have to slow down a little or take a beating as they remark the trail for the rest. The ride across Norton Bay will be like riding in a marshmallow.
Right-ON 2/14/2008 09:48:00 AM Post
This is so unfair to all the other teams that pay the same fees to compete, when we know they aren't going to place in the top pay spots.
They should all be treated equal as well as race equal too.
Happy Valentine's Day!
GO Arctic Cat, let WHOOP them poo and doo guys ;-)
if certain teams aren't provided air support oh well. thats like saying c team sponsorships should be on the same level as people like blair morgan and steve martin. it just dont make sense
9:48
I agree completely. Let's eliminate the air support and make the race an even playing field. Right now to be "competitive" you need to have a small fortune.
Scary, I hope the teams will take precautions today and we wish them a safe ride.
Thank you to all that report conditions and man and machine updates.
:-)
Think these are the tentative departure time for the following:
Team #18 Drake/George 10:46am
Team #4 Demoski/Huntington 10:49am
Team #26 Pelkola/Huntington 11:04am
Team #37 Kriska/Carlo 11:58am
great sponsorship packages are earned not given!!
GPS show 16 about 10 to 15 minuites out of White Mountain. Looks like a slower spilt time than North bound.
What time does Team #8 leave Nome?
10:03, YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE MISSING THE POINT, YOU WOULD DARE TO COMPARE DAVIS AND PALIN AS THE BLAIR MORGAN OF IRON DOG? I WILL NOT TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM THE TWO GUYS, THEY ARE VERY SMART AND EXCELLENT RACERS AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, BUT IN A STATE THIS VAST, WITHOUT AIR SUPPORT, THEY ARE JOE BLOWS LIKE ANYONE ELSE, AND DAVIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TIED AS THE WINNINGEST RIDER WITH JOHN FAEO.
Has the race started???? Or is it just me watching the Polaris sign waiting for snowmobiles to go by. I see lots of cars...but no people or snowmobiles. Hmmm Just wondering if anyone knows if any teams have gone out yet. Thx
Seriously, we are still on this. I just want to know where the teams are. Has team 8 left Nome and if so, does any one know where they are
I SEE ONE! Yipee a sled!
10:05, YOU ARE COMPLETELY RIGHT, GREAT SPONSORSHIPS ARE EARNED. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. BUT WHEN YOU CLAIM TO BE THE "LONGEST HARDEST RACE" IN THE WORLD, ITS NOT AS HARD A RACE FOR TEAM 22 AS COMPARED TO THE TEAM THE GUYS FROM MAINE. MAYBE THIS RACE SHOULD BE CUT UP INTO MORE CLASSES, PRO AIR SUPPORT, PRO NON AIR SUPPORT, PRO OFF THE COUCH, AND TRAIL.
ok.. so just team 16 got a penalty?? i agree with the plane help for palin and davis...should be fair for everyone... but any ways. the weather in white mountain is crappy.. its snowing and windy..its about -2 degrees F with a windchill of about -21.. wind is about 13mph from the NNW....
GPS shows 16 about 15 miles out of White Mountain and team 8 past Safty about 5 minuites ago.
Wouldn't it be wise for 16 to take their first layover as soon as possible and let the other racers break trail? Besides, I'd think they'd want to ride at night during the flat light conditions.
10:12 they have earned everything they have gotten obviously. of course money helps dont enter a race of this caliber if you can't afford ir or barely afford it. im just sayin. and you arent getting it i was using blair morgan and steve as an example they are at the top of there game and just because there are other snocross racers out there to make it "fair" they need all the support they get?? no. put in your time and earn it.
Team 16 & 8 have been on the trail a while check out the gps site. Sorry to say HQ doesn't have any of this posted prior to departure
10:18 i feel you on that. that makes sense
Do you really think Faeo never had air support? You just don't know what you're talking about.
Does anyone know if the
http://www.nomealaska.org/vc/cam-page.htm
is where the Nome restart leaves?
Been keeping an eye on it and haven't seen one team yet.
Davis has been a big part of the Iron Dog since day one--he has worked hard and just because he has air support-get over it. Todd is the same--they work hard for what they get and what they do. Do we have some jealous riders out there.
i think so.
How do I get the old gps pings to stop showing up?
Work times in Nome are being updated along with coarse times.
10:19
I think it might be a thought, but with snow filling in the trail constantly it will be best to be close to leaders.....just not leading at this point. It is much less about "breaking trail" in the manner of deep, fuel-sucking snow....more just a soft "cover" that masks the entire trail. The trail breaking will become more of an issue when they head for the portage between here and Kaltag as it's been dumping up there since yesterday.
yeah breaking trail would be a beetch
I am not very good with the gps, but can you get rid of the gps reading from the northbound? Thanx
How do I get the old gps pings to stop showing up?
2/14/2008 10:26:00 AM
That's my question also. I can't get 8 to read out of Nome, just 16.
10:18 Pro off the couch that is very funny!
Team 16 through White Mt. at 10:26.
Be safe!
Hey 2/14/2008 10:24:00 AM
It's not jealousy, it's fairness. Think about IT.
This is the rugedest and harshest race. Have you ever been around Alaska?
Does anyone know it there is a webcam to watch teams leave Nome?
How many airplanes did Davis have the first few wins? None? And he still managed to win! Think about that!!!!
"The Lazyboy 2,000" The World's Longest, Toughest Couch Race! Engine and suspension made out of anything you want as long as you can attach it to a lazyboy. (Massage Lazyboys optional) I'll sign up for that race!
I just added new pictures from the village of Elim in between Koyuk and White Mountian. Thanks for sending them to us.
You can see them here.
It`s a sprint race between Villages.
10:41
HAHA
When does the West Duo leave Nome?
why isnt team#18 drake/george not moving??
All the complaining
about about air suport lets say we go back to the years that we had to carry all extra parts with us ,we could not buy any not even a windshield, are sleds where so overloaded at the start. There were teams that had major support even then. Polaris was heavely suported by Jim And alaska power sports the rest of us had no suport we still raced. we did the best we could and did not complain. the point here is there is and will always be teams that will have extra support no matter what the rules are. Feao and Gillman had it durning there time so bashing teams now that have support is doing no good for this race and will not change a thing.LET THEM RACE!!!! Support your team. This means more to them then all the complaining.
Hey 2/14/2008 10:38:00 AM
That was a one-way race then.
Enough already - get over it. Just because others state they want this to be an equal race, quit defending the airsupport teams (or should I say 22?)
Watch the race NOW.
well i dont think that the fresh snow is bothering tyson or tyler cos they are goin 100. you can say they are rippin a lil bit!!! catch um boys.
DAVIS IS A GREAT RACER AND HELPS ANYONE THATS ASKS FOR ADVISE. HE HAS PROVEN HIMSELF SINCE THE EARLY YEARS OF THIS RACE. LETS EVEN THE FEILD, ALL THE SUPPORT YOU WANT, BUT ONCE THE FLAG IS DROPPED, NO AIR SUPPORT, EVERYONE RUNNING WITH THE SAME RESOURCES; I.E.: THE SAME ABILITY TO ACCESS PARTS IN THE VILLAGE OR HAVING TO GET ON A PHONE TO ORDER PARTS FROM ANCHORAGE OR ANOTHER HUB. LET A RACE BE A RACE OTHERWISE IT BECOMES A HANDICAP RACE, LIKE LETTING TRUE OLYMPIANS RACING FOR GOLD AGAINST JEFFY THE FAS KID FROM MIDTOWN THAT RACES THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS. THIS IS THE LONGEST, HARDEST SNOWMOBILE RACE IN THE WORLD RIGHT???
Seen a team leave at 10:51, could that be TEam 4?
no more info on this blog I guess all it's for now is just complainimg
AMEN 2/14/2008 10:49:00 AM
Truly spoken
On the checkpoint page it looks like Team 10 has a mistake.
The notes say 10 min worktime, yet 15 were added for work time. Which one is right?
Team 10
