Official Air Carrier partner and sponsor of the Nome Halfway Banquet
Wednesday, February 20th at 5:30 p.m. | Nome Mini-Convention Center
Nome is home to Iron Dog’s biggest cash contingency prizes and the pause in the chaos of the longest, toughest snowmobile race. The first teams to arrive into Nome are the front runners in our Recreational Class, often followed by just a few hours by the fastest Pro Class racers who left the starting line two days after the Recreational Class. Most teams will arrive into Nome by the Tuesday following the Start from Deshka Landing.
Most of the race action in Nome consists of Pro Class teams putting together a plan to repair their snowmachines for the return race to Fairbanks. The City of Nome hosts the Iron Dog headquarters in the Fire Hall and the racers in the City Garage where the Pro Class teams will schedule “work time” to repair their snowmobiles on the clock. Every minute spent working on their machines counts toward their course time, so it can get exciting inside the garage.

Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.: Nome Banquet and Ceremonies
Northern Air Cargo is sponsoring the Halfway Banquet (and the Nome checkpoint!) and is even offering up two $250 gift certificates for the Trail Class riders to win. Subway is providing the sandwiches and snacks for the banquet.
In between repairs, rest and recuperation – the Iron Dog staff and volunteers prepare a local community celebration to award some great halfway prizes, including a $10,000 “Gold Rush” cash prize sponsored by Donlin Gold going to the fastest Pro Class team into Nome.
Thank you to the Bering Sea Lions Club for your increased support in 2019, and thanks goes out to the Nome City Council for their added support as well!
