THOUGHTFUL TUESDAY……………………THANKFUL TOOsday!!!!
I thought when I woke up I was going to get a nap today…..I thought I had a long day yesterday……I thought I was going to get out of my PJs today……I thought I was going to retire this year…….I thought I was going on a Seattle/Oregon Vacation……I thought I could WALK AWAY…….
I think those are some heavy thoughts…….I think I better have a talk with myself…..
So I find myself sitting here staring at a screen that won’t dim…..about 10 this morning, my computer glitched and I thought Facebook kicked me off (my normal usage is off the charts) nothing I posted was engaging and my notification ding ding dings…..went silent…..THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING on Half-Way Tuesday!!!!
I had to reboot, the motor and fan were running about the same RPM as the number one team out there today…..Sweet 16 they left on Sunday morning in first position, they pulled into McG first after blazing a trail and leaving dust to settle amongst the rest of the field and they continued to battle it out between Teams Eight & Forty-One with a little mix of some others in the section between McG & KAL….it was an interesting day for sure….
I stayed up toooo late last night but posted some real time pics that wet the appetite for all your rabid fans out there…..if it isn’t posted inside of 22 seconds…WE are in trouble!!!! If it weren’t for speedy fingers in the frozen winds of UNK, KOY, WMO and the live feed in NOME we would all be wondering what the big hoopla was about……now we know thanks to all those incredible volunteers out on the trail willing to share a little taste —give us a show and tell —look see — what these racers are going through….the pictures are deceiving……I can’t feel the temperatures —- it looks so beautiful…..blue sky, sunshine for miles…..but we know….there is wind and that came through loud and clear on the videos……muffled by howling winds…..
The racers are going to be in Nome putting the salve on the blisters of Frost Bite in the next 40 hours…..Racers have been driving in -50 temps for most of the race from Rohn to Nome……when racers have to battle Mother Nature…..trust me…she usually wins!!!!
Racers will get a “FREE 15 minute timed” inspection of the machines once they thaw out….they will usually pair up with a recorder to make a list of parts, possible repairs and things to consider once they plan on clock time…the recorder cannot touch the sled, only the racers may do that…..when it is time to go on the clock for repairs a team can have two support members Wrench on Wednesday…..stay tuned….that work time will possibly change the departure order especially if teams are separated by minutes…..
I am THANKFUL for all the volunteers out there that love this race enough to use their own phones to call in details, to post pictures to their facebook pages, to tag folks so that they can be viewed by many more than their friends…..Photographers that share their commercial work for the masses at no reimbursement for their art!!! And I am especially THANKFUL that you let me come out and play for this one week in February and you think I have something good to say!!!! ENJOY THE DAY OFF THE COMPUTER SCREEN TOMORROW…I know I will finally join the tourists of Seattle and go do something like enjoy a coffee with the hubs!!!!
