THROTTLE THURSDAY & 2017 Trivia
You know that saying “Run like the wind”…..tomorrow there will be a lot of wind for the racers competing in the 2017 Iron Dog….. Big Storm Swirling on the Coast!!!!
I am a believer in numbers…..the numbers that scream out to me this year…..are:
Positions for first and second were flipped without moving a single machine 1 mile on the snow…..that is what I call garage floor racing
It is blowing 28 MPH in Nome as of 11 PM Alaska time Wednesday night…..gusting to 41 MPH
Negative double digit temperature for 1,100 miles so far….more of the same as they head to FBX
35 Pro Class Teams started…..21 teams are still in it to win it!!!
40% of the field has scratched by the ½ way point
7 teams with racers that claim hometowns outside Alaska are still in it to win it!!!
Racers will take 2 @ 10 hours each LO before reaching Tanana
Ambient temp is 8 above….feels like -14 tonight in Nome!!!
Three brands of machines are represented on the top three lead positions…..
There are about 12 hours race time to Tanana and 20 hours of LO for racers….hard to get a ride rhythm
Another 15 hours of mandatory hold in Tanana for a daylight finish in Fairbanks….
I bet there will be 2,017 pretty tall stories told by racers before they go back to real life and work on Monday 2-27-17
The fastest GPS MPH ping I saw was 102 MPH posted by Solid Six on the spit just before coming into Nome on Tuesday night…..
There have been several years when an Iron Dog race is decided by just seconds and minutes….might 2017 be the same?
42 men will leave Nome on Throttle Thursday with one thing on his mind… Fairbanks for a Finish!!!!.
Let’s get this party started – HLF, Iron Dog Maiden, Den Mother, or just Harriett : ) : )
