There’s been some confusion about media, VIP and other passes for the 2011 Iron Dog. The following is our plan and explanation of how to access this event.
Times to Consider
Setup: Early to about 9:00am
Race Start: 11:06am
Most media have already signed up and the simple story is that we have not yet denied access to anyone. We will send out a note via email with additional information later tonight (Friday, Feb 18th) with details on where you can park, how to get your passes and what the Media Pass does for you. In general, media passes will give you access to one side of the race chute and some access to the inside of the chute. If you have not signed up by today. You will have to ask us at the day of the event or find an Iron Dog official the day before during setup.
Family and Friends
We are limiting the number of Pit Passes for racer families and friends (2 per racer). This is not meant to be restrictive, but is meant to keep the Pit Area functioning and safe. We also have a very tight timeline to install last minute equipment (especially the GPS tracking units). If there are too many people crowded around the teams, we risk in starting the race, which is not an option. The fencing around Pit Area will be easily accessible for the public to come and talk with their favorite teams/riders…which we encourage you to do.
VIPs, Sponsors and Staff
Most of you have already been informed. If not, please come by the HQ at the Start of the race and we’ll get you sorted out. VIP Passes will give you access to the “Media side” of the line and entrance into the warming tent near the KTUU news desk.
No passes required on the “Fans side” of the race. Anyone can come to the event, enter onto the lake at the South Shore park entrance and follow the NOS “Race Today” and Parking signs. There will be loads of parking from the ice road…not to mention: free pancakes, hotdogs, coffee and plenty of other great displays at the Start. We look forward to seeing you there!
