It is dark and cold in Nome this morning…..the SOUTHBOUND section of the trail is about to rear its ugly head. Starting this morning at 8 AM teams will begin their journey back toward Ruby and see some new trail heading to Tanana tomorrow……Although Team #27 will have a tiny advantage since they took a little detour heading north a couple days ago to check out the trail, set them back some, but yesterday when I talked to them, it wasn’t such a big deal…..just a typical situation in Iron Dog.
I checked the weather last night and it was cold all along the coast some strong winds and some not so strong. Last year on the same race morning, most of the leading pack took their first LO in White Mt. We will see what happens today. They have two 10 hour LO to do before they reach the mandatory LO in Tanana on Friday for the Saturday finish.
Teams will be gassed up at the garage this morning, escorted to the restart chute, some will have some tiny bits of work on the clock this morning at the chute, not ideal, but if they didn’t see something yesterday in the garage, or there wasn’t a part in yet, it would have cost them an hour to go back on the clock……I heard about wheels and grease that was going to have to be done this morning……
Full Tilt Boogie on Norton Sound today……the GPS page is going to light up again like the Blue Light special at Kmart……There was a tiny quack on the leader board yesterday with some time spreads changed up with some efficiencies in the garage…….we will see how that plays out today!!! I will be on the ice, in the garage……and hopefully I will get pics of all the racers still in the game…….I got a message last night and my sticker is in the mail…….Turns out Micah Huss has a managing crew to send out his swag!!!! Happy Trails all!!!! Varroooooom Varrooooom, Iron Dog Maiden
