Richard Strick, Jr.
2008 Charter Inductee Iron Dog Hall of Fame
Richard caught the “Iron Dog Fever” when he partnered with Alan “Goomy” Anderson, II and raced in the 1997 Iron Dog event. In his rookie year he finished the grueling race in 7th place.
Richard was also a generous volunteer. He volunteered countless hours to Iron Dog for many years, breaking trail north and south of McGrath and manning the Rohn Checkpoint.
Breaking trail north meant traveling to Poorman more than 300 miles round-trip. Richard died in an avalanche breaking trail for the Iditarod in 2006 just after volunteering for Iron Dog. His generosity will not be forgotten.
