Extraordinary conditions are wreaking havoc on the race. What should normally be a 90 minute drive from Nome to Golovin, the Pro Teams have been slogging for four hours. Snow depth in the Golovin to Elim areas is easily more than seven feet – add that to Arctic coastal winds and storm surge, the creeks and rivers are filling with overflow.
Apparently, some of the racers felt they could push on and have decided to press on. We’ll follow them and do our best to keep you posted.
The Ambassador Team and some other riders have decided to return to Nome. We’ll get an update when they get back.
We anticipate that all scheduled events for Saturday will be cancelled or (possibly) rescheduled for Sunday. As things develop, we will update this page and via Facebook.
