Overview
Expedition Class & Ambassador Class Start Kick off the Iron Dog two days ahead of the Pro Class at Big Lake! On Thursday, February 12th, watch as these two distinct classes embark on epic Alaskan journeys.
The Expedition Class offers adventure seekers a non-competitive trail ride through some of Alaska's most challenging terrain. Teams of 2-4 riders tackle the same rugged conditions as the pros—without the race clock. New for 2026, participants choose their destination: the 1,487-mile route to Nome or the 1,240-mile route to Kotzebue.
This year’s Ambassador Class includes eight experienced riders on a mission beyond speed. This team—including the legendary "Three Old Guys" who rode 5,000 miles from Minnesota to Alaska in 2023, veteran Iron Dog racers, and Polaris engineers—will travel the 1,487 miles to Nome while promoting snowmachine safety, engaging with communities, and showcasing what prepared, purposeful riding looks like.
Come early to meet the riders, snap photos, and experience the camaraderie that defines Iron Dog. Starting at Susitna Brewing Company in Big Lake.
