FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Iron Dog Announces Return to Fairbanks Finish for 2026 Race
Anchorage, Alaska – June 10, 2025 – The Iron Dog, the World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race, is proud to announce that the 2026 race will finish at Pike’s Landing in Fairbanks —returning to a historic finish location and marking a bold new direction for the event.
Governor Mike Dunleavy made the announcement today at the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce luncheon, stating:
“Iron Dog is a powerful symbol of Alaska's resilience, ingenuity, and passion for adventure. There's no more fitting place to celebrate this spirit than here on the banks of the Chena River. After a five-year absence, I am thrilled to announce that this iconic race will once again finish in Fairbanks for the 2026 event. I am confident that this wonderful community will welcome the racers home with the enthusiasm and pride that this remarkable competition deserves."
The move from Big Lake to Fairbanks signals the start of a new era for Iron Dog, one that builds on its rich tradition while embracing a more challenging and expansive route. The 2026 race will span approximately 2,500 miles, pushing competitors to their limits as they traverse Alaska’s toughest terrain.
“Returning the finish to Fairbanks where the race has successfully concluded in past years is an exciting development for Iron Dog,” said Rick Paquette, Executive Director of Iron Dog. “Pike’s Landing provides an iconic and accessible finish line, and we’re thrilled to once again celebrate our champions on the banks of the Chena River.”
Iron Dog organizers are working closely with local partners in Fairbanks to support the logistics and planning necessary for a world-class finish experience for racers, families, and fans alike.
More information about the 2026 route, checkpoint details, and event schedule will be shared in the coming months.
