Teams Cross the Farewell Burn
Racers are entering the notorious "Farewell Burn": a wide-open, unprotected stretch of flat terrain infamous for its lack of snow, where frozen tussocks akin to bowling balls and bare dirt turn snowmachines into overheating rock crawlers with bent suspensions and broken bulkheads.
In 2025 with a lack of snow, teams were forced to pack whatever ice they could find onto their machines just to keep them running through what many call the worst section of the entire race.
It's not the initial overheating that plagues teams, it's the damage that is done as teams move on to the high-speed sections.
Team 18: Austin Carroll and Corbin Hollenbeck explain it on an upcoming episode of the Iron Dog Podcast. Stay tuned.
